Raffi’s “Baby Beluga” is one of the most enduring songs in the children’s music canon. Last week Raffi released a 40th-anniversary rendition of the song with music legend Yo-Yo Ma in a new video and soon to be released song whose proceeds will benefit The Climate Mobilization!
Raffi hopes his music and songs such as Baby Beluga serve to inspire those who love his music to commit to protecting the planet. “I have a Green Dream for all families to thrive in peaceful, sustainable societies. I want beluga grads active in the climate movement, reading books such as Facing The Climate Emergency and becoming change-makers locally and in national and global contexts when possible,” he said.
“I grew up listening to Raffi, and I plan to spend my life fighting for the safe, loving, nature-filled world that he portrays. Raffi brings his talents for music and relating to children, I bring my training as a clinical psychologist. If we all contribute what we have, it’s not too late to protect our world.” said Margaret Klein Salamon, founder of The Climate Mobilization and author of Facing The Climate Emergency.
The decision to donate funds from the song to The Climate Mobilization was no mere coincidence, but a conscious choice to provide support for an organization unapologetically committed to pressuring leaders to unite and move as one with the urgency necessary to protect our society from an existential crisis. We’re grateful to Raffi for his activism and support of Climate Mobilization.
We hope you enjoy the recording and can share some Baby Beluga love with the young people in your life.
